Lectio Divina is a way
of reading the Scriptures in order the hear what God is saying personally to
us through his Word. It is a way of reading the Bible that leads to
meditation and a closeness wih God rather than the traditional 'Bible Study'
which concentrates more on learning and Bible knowledge. This method can be
used individually but also, very effectively, in small groups. A passage
from the bible would be read aloud and then each member of the group would
meditate on the reading, for about 15-20 minutes, seaking to hear what God
was saying to them individually. There is no 'correct version' of reading,
each persons response would be valid. At the end of the time we would share
what God had shown us in the passage and then end with a short prayer taking
the quietness home with us. This kind of 'reading' may well appeal to people
who are looking for a way to 'be still with God' and to hear God speaking to
them.
