Looking back
On Sunday, Mike gave us a fresh insight into the Transfiguration of Jesus. I was particularly struck by the amazing contrast with the crucifixion. One a mountain of glory – the other a hill of shame; Jesus all in white – then stripped; flanked by Moses and Elijah – later to be flanked by thieves; the brightness of the Transfiguration – the dark cloud covering the earth; Peter excited – Peter in hiding; God’s voice proclaiming Jesus as His Son – the priests questioning Him and the soldier voicing that He was God’s Son.
Mike also mentioned how this was a moment when the “veil of ordinariness” was lifted – allowing us a glimpse of the glory of heaven – think of the angels at Jesus’ birth; His baptism; in the Old Testament – Numbers 22 – Baalam’s donkey; 2 Kings 6 – Elisha’s servant is able to see the heavenly host.

John 4:5-26 – The Samaritan woman at the well
- Why was Jesus “hiding out” in a Samaritan area? Who were the Samaritans?
- What is the significance of Jesus’ revelation to the Samaritan woman of who He is?
- Jesus says – I am the living water – do you find relief in times of dryness because of your faith?
- Jesus knows the woman’s home situation – do you think this is what we refer to as a gift of knowledge – have you ever experienced this?
- What do you think it means to “worship in spirit and in truth”?
