Revised Common Lectionary

Confirmation Course

The Confirmation Course is run each year for adults and students and some high school learners. These are folk who wish to confirm that they are Christ followers and adult members of the church. The tendency is for confirmation to be at an older age than previously, thus allowing a more mature and thoughtful response.

Confirmation consists of three main strands:

  • You say publicly that you want to be a member of the Church.
  • The Church confirms publicly that you have become an adult member.
  • God confirms what you have done by sending the Holy Spirit to live within you. (Most likely this has already happened but the bishop prays that God will confirm this to you through the Holy Spirit)

Those who wish to be confirmed are encouraged to attend the Alpha Course in the first part of the year. This is a course which has been very successful in introducing people to the basics of the Christian faith.

In the second half of the year a confirmation course is run covering the following topics:

  • The gospel
  • The disciple
  • The Bible
  • The Church
  • The world
  • The creeds
  • The sacraments

Please speak to Mike if you are interested. The course is designed for adults and students. High school scholars can also attend.

The Confirmation Service is normally on the 3rd Sunday in October or as near as possible to that date.
